The successful candidate will provide field inspection support to the project team in DoD, Railroad Intermodal, and Sea Port execution of projects. This person will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Construction, Director of Construction and staff engineers. The position will require travel within the United States and possibly overseas with appropriate compensation. Duties include both technical and administrative functions:

  • Inspects asphalt and concrete paving operations on railroad intermodal and airfield facilities
  • Provides quality assurance inspections for asphalt and concrete paving operations
  • Determines whether construction is in compliance with plans, specifications and standards
  • Writes inspection reports, weather reports, and documents test results and observations
  • Tests soil density, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials
  • Verifies form construction, rebar placement, concrete mixture, pile driving, drainage structure placement, subgrade, and base construction
  • Understands and is able to interpret engineering designs, maps, and plans
  • Understands and can operate survey instruments to confirm alignments and elevations
  • Participates in construction meetings as required
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving operations, road cuts, repairs, resurfacing and milling

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Due to the other types of projects in the Company, all candidates must be a U.S. citizen and capable of passing U.S. security background check, including driver's license checks.  U.S. military contract requirements do not allow dual-citizenship and non-U.S. citizens
  • Project exposure with railway companies, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), or Department of Defense (DoD) and any overseas entity is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work independently
  • Must communicate effectively and interact well with people
  • Other duties as may be assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a High School diploma, or possession of an acceptable equivalency certificate (Higher education is preferred but not required)
  • Five (5) years or more experience with pavement construction and inspection
  • Railroad intermodal or airfield pavement inspections a plus
  • DoD, FAA, Railroad and Sea Port related experience is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge and ability to efficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Windows programs
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation with business correspondence
  • Must be able to lead or work within a project and have strong people skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
